For more details on this process, see the process description. The text description of the Emergency Fishery Closure in the Gulf of Mexico due to the BP Horizon Oil Spill is the true definition of the closure. No tests for logical consistency were performed on this data. The data was visually inspected to confirm that; the inside and outside of the polygons are where they should be.
Complete
No specific test was performed on the dataset. For the 3 nautical mile line and EEZ lines, obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Ocean Service, the data is a reflection of the largest scale raster nautical charts of the area. The number of decimal places used in the output format does not imply an accuracy level higher than the source chart documents.

publication date
Points were selected to enclose the 48 hour trajectory, and the extremes of the BP Oil Spill estimated on 05/13/10, 2000 CDT. Lines were created from those points. The resulting line and the State/Federal water line were merged, then edited to remove the State/Federal water line that extended beyond the spill area. A polygon was created from the merged lines. The data was projected to Albers Equal Area Conic Projection (customized for this specific area). The area was calculated for the closure using ArcTools Utilities.
