The data was visually inspected to confirm that; the inside and outside of the polygons are where they should be.CompleteNo specific test was performed on the dataset. For the 3 or 9 nautical mile line and EEZ lines, obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Ocean Service, the data is a reflection of the largest scale raster nautical charts of the area. The number of decimal places used in the output format does not imply an accuracy level higher than the source chart documents. Areas are calculated based on Albers Equal Area Conic Projection using the geographic extents of the largest fishery closure before openings began on 07/22/10, and should not be considered absolute. Area boundaries reflect the 30 nautical mile sampling grids used to sample seafood.documentNovember 24 2010publication dateNMFS is expanding the federal fishery closure boundaries specified on November 15, 2010, to include a 4,213 square mile area to the north and west of the closure boundaries that is closed to royal red shrimp fishing only. This 4,213 square mile area was opened to all fishing on November 15, 2010, after testing confirmed finfish and shrimp species sampled in the area met seafood safety thresholds. The area is being closed to royal red shrimp fishing only as a precautionary measure in response to information that a royal red shrimp fisherman encountered tar balls when trawling in deepwater habitat near the vicinity of the Deepwater Horizon wellhead. The area closed to royal red shrimp fishery only extends from the state/federal water line beginning at 89°00'W and running north to 29°30'N, then 29°30'N / 87°30'W, 29°00'N / 87°30'W, and 29°00'N / 88°30'W, 28°30'N / 88°30'W, and 28°30'N / 89°00'W. The area closed to all fishing extends from 29°00'N / 88°30'W to 29°00'N / 88°00'W to 28°30'N / 88°00'W, then 28°30'N / 88°30'W.
Lines were created from those points. The resulting line and the State/Federal water line were merged, then edited to remove the State/Federal water line that extended beyond the spill area. A polygon was created from the merged lines. The data was projected to Albers Equal Area Conic Projection (customized for this specific area). The area was calculated for the closure using ArcTools Utilities.20101124NOAA-NMFSNMFS SERO GIS CoordinatorGIS Coordinatormailing and physical address
