        abstract:  The Winter/Summer Monsoon Experiment (MONEX) was conducted during the First Global GARP (Global Atmospheric Research Program) Experiment (FGGE). An international team of scientists observed monsoonal circulations over the Arabian Sea, the South China Sea, and the Indian Ocean. This coordinated acquisition of data allowed scientists to better understand the formation of monsoons and their cycles. The collection consists of raw data, summaries, and publications about the experiment and its results, with data available on paper or microfilm. Parameters studied included: precipitation patterns, upper and surface level winds, temperature, humidity, air circulation patterns, cloud variability, as well as other observations.
        purpose:  This in-depth study of monsoonal circulations and their interaction with various components of the atmosphere was instrumental in understanding the nature of monsoons, enabling scientists to improve monsoon models and predictions.

            statement:  Raw data was reduced and processed in the United States then transferred to India and the World Data Centres A and B in accordance with the internationally agreed upon procedures in the International Data Management Plan. For geostationary satellite imagery: during the field phase, copies of the photographs were made available to the International Level II, a Data Management Centre in New Delhi. These copies were microfilmed as the Quick-look Data Set which was made available to India and the World Data Centres A and B.
