    • 2015-04-22T00:00:00 - NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.

    Processing Steps
    • 2006-08-01T00:00:00 - All datasets obtained by NCEI were converted to common horizontal datum of WGS84 geographic using FME and common vertical datum of MHW. They were also converted to common file format for visualization and inspection.
    • 2006-08-02T00:00:00 - Datasets were visually inspected with ArcGIS for identification and editing of data anomalies. Datasets were then compared with overlapping datasets to ensure data consistency.
    • 2006-08-03T00:00:00 - Coastline datasets were derived from digitized nautical charts with a horizontal datum of WGS 84 and a vertical datum of MHW, either verified or inferred. They were compared, edited and compiled into a single coastline using ArcGIS. The resultant coastline dataset was subsampled to 90 meter spacing and converted to xyz point data.
    • 2006-08-04T00:00:00 - Multibeam bathymetry data were obtained as 3 arc-second gridded data, singlebeam data and xyz point data from hydrographic surveys and were combined. Comparisons were made to ensure the greatest coverage by prioritizing gridded data and filling gaps with singlebeam data.
    • 2006-08-05T00:00:00 - Bathymetry data were converted to WGS84 horizontal datum and MHW vertical datum using FME. The data were then compared to nautical charts, SRTM topographic data, coastline data, and Google Earth satellite imagery for errors and consistency using ArcGIS. They were then converted to xyz point data using ArcGIS.
    • 2006-08-06T00:00:00 - Topographic data were obtained as Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) "Finished" 3 arc second gridded data and National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI) 2 arc second gridded data. The data were clipped to the compiled coastline data to remove values over water.
    • 2006-08-07T00:00:00 - Using FME software, SRTM topographic data were converted to MHW by adding a constant value of -0.565 meters; for INEGI topographic data, -0.407 maters were added. The topographic data were then converted to xyz point data using ArcGIS.. surfaced using GMT's 'surface' tool onto a 3 arc-second grid that interpolated to fill empty cells.
    • 2006-08-08T00:00:00 - For all data sets, ESRI ArcGIS shapefiles were generated and checked for value consistency between datasets.
    • 2006-08-09T00:00:00 - xyz files for each input dataset were gridded using GMT, imported into ArcGIS and seamlessly merged to create the final DEM.
    • 2006-08-10T00:00:00 - The DEM was quantitatively evaluated by comparing with source datasets.
