NEFSC 2001 Winter Bottom Trawl Survey (AL0102, EK500). The objectives of the cruise are to: (1) determine the winter distribution and relative abundance of fish and selected invertebrate species; (2) collect biological samples for studies of age and growth relationships, fecundity, maturity and food habits; (3) collect hydrographic and meteorological data; (4)
collect samples of ichthyoplankton and zooplankton; and (5) make data and sample collections for cooperative researchers and programs; (6) conduct a hydroacoustic survey between survey stations.
The NEFSC bottom trawl survey provides fisheries independent abundance and biological data for fisheries assessments along the U.S. east coast.

Kongsberg/Simrad .raw files are generated by ME70, EK60 or ES60 instruments. They contain power and optionally angular position data with each beam/frequency identified by an independent channel. See the Simrad interface specification manual for further information. The .wcd files are generated by Kongsberg EM302 or EM122 instruments. See Kongsberg documentation for more information.

NOAA Ship Albatross IV (R 342)

creation
Albatross IV (AL)
The NOAA Ship Albatross IV conducted fishery and living marine resource research in support of NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northeast Fisheries Science Center's (NEFSC), Woods Hole Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The ship's normal operating area was the Gulf of Maine, Georges Bank, and the continental shelf and slope from Southern New England to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Typical assessment work included groundfish surveys and Ecosystem Monitoring surveys. Research conducted from the Albatross IV provides an understanding of the physical and biological processes that control year class strength of key economical fish, shellfish and zooplankton species. The vessel was operated by NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations. The Albatross IV was decommissioned on 20 November 2008.

Simrad EK60

The Simrad EK60 Scientific Sounder system is a new generation fishery researchtool, based on experience from the EK500. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system.
