EK60 Water Column Sonar Data Collected During GU1002
Sub-Surface Oil Monitoring Cruise (GU1002, EK60). Objectives were to evaluate ability of acoustic echosounder measurements to detect and localize a sub-surface plume of oil or related hydrocarbons released from the Deepwater Horizon well-head using the Simrad EK60 echosounder, collect fluid samples to confirm acoustc scattering targets, collect temperature, dissolved oxygen, and fluorometry profiles in the vicinity of the plume, and assess abundance and distribution of zooplankton, phytoplankton, and larval fish.

- Simrad EK60 raw (.raw) format (Version: 1)
- File Specification: Kongsberg/Simrad .raw files are generated by ME70, EK60 or ES60 instruments. They contain power and optionally angular position data with each beam/frequency identified by an independent channel. See the Simrad interface specification manual for further information. The .wcd files are generated by Kongsberg EM302 or EM122 instruments. See Kongsberg documentation for more information.

| Purpose |
Measure volume scattering strength profiles along transects near the Deepwater Horizon well-head using EK60 echosounder and evaluate ability to characterize vertical and horizontal distribution of sub-surface oil plume. |
