SEAMAP Spring 2016 Plankton Survey (R21601, EK60). During the 2016 Spring Plankton Survey, plankton samples were collected from a systematic grid of stations to assess distribution, occurrence and abundance of the early life stages of a variety of species of fishes and invertebrates in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The survey specifically targets larval bluefin tuna.

Kongsberg/Simrad .raw files are generated by ME70, EK60 or ES60 instruments. They contain power and optionally angular position data with each beam/frequency identified by an independent channel. See the Simrad interface specification manual for further information. The .wcd files are generated by Kongsberg EM302 or EM122 instruments. See Kongsberg documentation for more information.

The Simrad EK60 Scientific Sounder system is a new generation fishery researchtool, based on experience from the EK500. The new electronic hardware is combined with up to date PC processing and Windows operation. The EK60 provides facilities for accurate echo sounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The system communication is through Ethernet, which gives flexibility in the location of the EK60 system units and allows easy access to data from other instruments or stations on a vessel network. A post processing software, BI60, is also included in the EK60 system.

NOAA Ship Oregon II (R332)
Oregon II
The NOAA Ship Oregon II conducts fishery and living marine resource studies in support of the research of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Pascagoula Laboratory in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The ship collects fish and crustacean specimens using trawls and benthic longlines and fish larvae and eggs, and plankton using plankton nets and surface and midwater larval nets. The Oregon II normally operates in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. The vessel is operated by NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations. http://www.moc.noaa.gov/Ships%20Characteristics/NOAA%20Ship%20Oregon%202%20-%20Final%2030JAN2014.pdf

sea surface temperature
The SBE 38 digital oceanographic thermometer is unaffected by shock and vibration, has high accuracy and stability, and is easy to use. It has a rugged, corrosion-proof, 10,500 meter (34,400 ft) titanium pressure housing. Real-time temperature data is transmitted in ASCII characters (ÿðC or raw counts) via an RS-232 or optional RS-485 serial interface for display or logging by PC or data logger.

SBE SeaCat 21
thermosalinograph
The SBE 21 accurately determines sea surface temperature and conductivity from underway vessels. Data is simultaneously stored in memory and transmitted to a computer serial port, allowing independent data logging and real-time data acquisition. Typically mounted near the ship's seawater intake, the SBE 21 is connected to an AC-powered interface box positioned near the computer. The interface box provides power and an isolated data interface, and contains a NMEA 0183 port for appending navigation information to the data stream.
