Heights of breaking surf were collected by using visual observations from swimmers or divers at the South Shore of Oahu, Hawaii from March 1, 1972 to November 20, 1987. Data were submitted by University of Hawaii, Honolulu.

Surf observation from the south shore, Oahu, were made on a daily basis by Mr. Larry Goddard or several of his competent surfer friends.
Purpose The observations were gathered into a dataset with the intention of applying statistics to better understand the mean patterns and trends and to document episodic events.

  • 2015-04-22T00:00:00 - NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
