This dataset includes chemical, discrete sample, physical and profile data collected from AKADEMIK IOFFE in the South Pacific Ocean from 1992-02-14 to 1992-04-06 and retrieved during cruise WOCE_S04P. These data include CHLOROFLUOROCARBON-11 (CFC-11), CHLOROFLUOROCARBON-12 (CFC-12), DELTA CARBON-13, DELTA CARBON-14, DELTA HELIUM-3, DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HELIUM, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, NEON, NITRATE, NITRITE, PHOSPHATE, Partial pressure (or fugacity) of carbon dioxide, Potential temperature (theta), SALINITY, SILICATE, Tritium (Hydrogen isotope) and WATER TEMPERATURE. The instruments used to collect these data include CTD and bottle. These data were collected by Taro Takahashi of Columbia University; Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory as part of the WOCE_S04P data set.
The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) was a major component of the World Climate Research Program with the overall goal of better understanding the ocean's role in climate and climatic changes resulting from both natural and anthropogenic causes. The CO2 survey took advantage of the sampling opportunities provided by the WOCE Hydrographic Program (WHP) cruises during this period between 1990 and 1998. The final collection covers approximately 23,000 stations from 94 WOCE cruises.

- Parameter or Variable: Dissolved Inorganic Carbon; Abbreviation: DIC; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Calculated; Detailed sampling and analyzing information: To measure the TCO2 concentration in seawater, a coulometric analysis system was used during the cruise. This system has been described by Chipman et al. (1993) and consists of a coulometer (Model 5011), manufactured by the UIC, Inc. (Jolliet, IL), and a sample introduction/CO2 extraction system of the LDEO design.; CRM batch number: 7.
- Parameter or Variable: pCO2 (fCO2) discrete; Abbreviation: fCO2; Observation type: discrete; In-situ / Manipulation / Response variable: In-situ observation; Measured or calculated: Measured; Temperature of measurement: 4.0 degree C; Detailed sampling and analyzing information: To measure the pCO2 in seawater a fully-automated equilibrator-gas chromatograph system was used during the cruise. This system has been described by Chipman et al. (1993).; Temperature correction method: constant-temperature water bath; Uncertainty: The precision of the pCO2 measurements has been estimated to be ~0.12% for a single station based on the reproducibility of replicate equilibrations.
