These data were collected by Douglas Wallace of Universitat Kiel; Institut Fur Meereskunde; Forschungsbereich Marine Biogeochemie and Kenneth Johnson [affiliation unknown] as part of the WOCE_P06 data set.

The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) was a major component of the World Climate Research Program with the overall goal of better understanding the ocean's role in climate and climatic changes resulting from both natural and anthropogenic causes. The CO2 survey took advantage of the sampling opportunities provided by the WOCE Hydrographic Program (WHP) cruises during this period between 1990 and 1998. The final collection covers approximately 23,000 stations from 94 WOCE cruises.

For these cases, the mean of the two replicate analyses was used for calculating Sp2. Averaging the replicate results reduced the degrees of freedom term by making n = 1 for each system no matter how many replicates were actually run on each system.; Standardization description: Samples were collected in 300-mL precombusted (450C for 24 h) glass standard Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) bottles, poisoned with 200-ul of a 50% saturated solution of HgCl2, and analyzed for TCO2 within 24 hours of collection (DOE Hand Book of Methods, 1994).; CRM batch number: 10 11.
