This dataset contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical and time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System (SCS) aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska and North Pacific Ocean from 2015-08-20 to 2015-09-02. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted these data and associated metadata to NODC. In addition, this dataset contains supplementary cruise-level metadata, which OMAO personnel logged in the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL). OMAO and NODC personnel developed the automated process to archive these data under the auspices of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (NOAA R2R) program.
This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.

aerovane
aerovane
anemometer with a tail to measure both wind direction and speed
An aerovane is an anemometer used to measure both wind direction and speed. The tail orients the instrument into the wind for direction while the propellers measure the wind speed.
anemometer
anemometer
measures wind speed
An anemometer is an instrument that measures wind speed. Note that an aerovane (insttypes_id 175) is an anemometer which has a tail and a propeller to measure the speed and direction of the wind.
barometer
barometer
Barometers are instruments for measuring atmospheric pressure;
two types include mercury barometers and aneroid barometers.
CTD
CTD
Conductivity-Temperature-Depth probe
echo sounder
echo sounder
instrument used to determine water depth or bathymetry
also known as an echosounder
fluorometer
fluorometer
fluorometer
GPS
GPS
Global Positioning System receiver
satellite-based instrument used for geo-location, positioning and navigation
humidity sensor
humidity sensor
HUMIDITY SENSORS are devices that receive a signal or stimulus
(as heat or pressure or light or motion etc.) and responds to
it, in this case humidity or some measure of the water vapor
content of air.
radiometer
radiometer
radiometer
temperature sensor
temperature sensor
A sensor used to measure temperature.
thermosalinograph
thermosalinograph
automated sea surface temperature and salinity instrument, usually attached to the hull of a ship
Thermosalinograph is an automated Sea Surface Temperature and Salinity measurement system making measurement on board a ship using a water intake.
[https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/phod/tsg/about.php 2021-01-29]
turbidity sensor
turbidity sensor
Measures the turbidity of water
Turbidity sensors measure the amount of light that is scattered by suspended solids in a liquid, such as water. When the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) in a liquid increase, the turbidity also increases.
