Binned level-3 Sea Surface Salinity from the European Space Agency Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) in support of the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) data quality monitoring system (DQMS) from 2010-06-01 to 2016-05-31 (NCEI Accession 0151732)

The data quality monitoring system (DQMS) for the Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellites level-2 sea surface salinity (SSS) swath data was developed by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) satellite oceanography team. As an important component of DQMS, the 1.0 degree longitude/latitude gridded level-3 SSS data is generated by NCEI satellite oceanography team through using box averages over the global ocean. The dataset comprises monthly and 3-day means.
NCEI-binned quick-look level-3 SSS datasets are generated directly from SMOS Level-2 products (currently V6.22). They improve the application of satellite SSS products in NOAA by minimizing the data latency to within 24 hours of Level-2 data availability.
