abstract: NCEI Accession 0157034 contains oceanographic and surface meteorological data collected from an automated shore station with a suite of sensors that are attached to Newport Pier along the nearshore California coast. These automated sensors measure CHLOROPHYLL A CONCENTRATION, CONDUCTIVITY, DEPTH - OBSERVATION, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, SALINITY, WATER DENSITY and WATER TEMPERATURE at frequent intervals in the nearshore coastal ocean. These data can provide local and regional information on mixing and upwelling, land run-off, and algal blooms. University of California, Irvine, collected the data and provided the data to SCCOOS, which assembles data from University of California, Irvine, and other sub-regional coastal and ocean observing systems of the Southern California Coastal United States, submitted the data to NCEI as part of the Integrated Ocean Observing System Data Assembly Centers (IOOS DACs) Data Stewardship Program. The data are made available in netCDF formatted files, which follow the Climate and Forecast metadata convention (CF) and the Attribute Convention for Data Discovery (ACDD). Each quarter, NCEI adds to this accession the data collected or updated during the previous quarter.

supplementalInformation: The IOOS vocabulary of oceanographic and meteorological parameters is at http://mmisw.org/ont/ioos/parameter. The mapping of this vocabulary to the CF standard names vocabulary is at http://mmisw.org/ont/ioos/map_ioos_cf. The netCDF data files in the Accession use both vocabularies. Automated shore station with a suite of sensors that are attached to piers along the nearshore California coast. These automated sensors measure temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, ph and water level at frequent intervals in the nearshore coastal ocean. This data can provide local and regional information on mixing and upwelling, land run-off, and algal blooms. In this accession, NCEI has archived multiple versions of these data. The latest (and best) version of these data has the largest version number.
