This dataset contains oceanographic and surface meteorological data collected at Schodack Island hydro/weather, a fixed station in the Hudson River. These sensors measure AIR TEMPERATURE, BAROMETRIC PRESSURE, CONDUCTIVITY, DEPTH - OBSERVATION, DEWPOINT, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, INCOMING SOLAR RADIATION, LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, OXYGEN - PERCENT SATURATION, PRECIPITATION AMOUNT, RELATIVE HUMIDITY, WATER LEVEL, WATER TEMPERATURE, WIND DIRECTION, WIND GUST, WIND SPEED, pH and turbidity at frequent intervals in the nearshore coastal ocean. Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS) collected the data and provided the data to MARACOOS, which assembles data from Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS) and other sub-regional coastal and ocean observing systems of the Mid-Atlantic Coastal United States, submitted the data to NCEI as part of the Integrated Ocean Observing System Data Assembly Centers (IOOS DACs) Data Stewardship Program. The data are made available in netCDF formatted files, which follow the Climate and Forecast metadata convention (CF) and the Attribute Convention for Data Discovery (ACDD). Each month, NCEI adds to this dataset the data collected during the previous month.
The hydrologic site for Schodack Island is immediately south of the Schodack Island State Park boat launch and the instrument housing is fixed to the steel bulkhead. Sensors on a YSI 6600V2 report Acidity, Dissolved Oxygen (% saturation and mg/L), Specific Conductance, Turbidity, Water Temperature, Water Level. The meteorological instrumentation is on a small island just west of Schodack Island State Park and just south of the I-90 by-pass bridge. All sensors are attached to the tower holding the navigation aids (marker # 197), with the exception of the barometer, which is onshore as part of the Schodack Island Hydrologic Station. The island is at least 130 m from either shore so there is no interference from nearby vegetation or ridgelines. Meteorological sensors report the following parameters every 15 minutes: air temperature, barometric pressure, radiation (PAR), precipitation, relative humidity, wind speed, direction & gusts.
This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

barometer
barometer
Barometers are instruments for measuring atmospheric pressure;
two types include mercury barometers and aneroid barometers.
C-T recorder
C-T recorder
An instrument that measures and records conductivity and temperature as is often attached to a mooring.
humidity sensor
humidity sensor
HUMIDITY SENSORS are devices that receive a signal or stimulus
(as heat or pressure or light or motion etc.) and responds to
it, in this case humidity or some measure of the water vapor
content of air.
oxygen sensor
oxygen sensor
Any instrument that measures oxygen content in a compound.
pH sensor
pH sensor
generic meter used to measure pH
Any of a class of instruments used to quantify pH in a water or other type of sample.
rain gauge
rain gauge
A device to measure the amount of liquid precipitation
The definition of liquid precipitation is any form of water falling from the sky as rain. Rain gauge measures the amount of liquid precipitation.
temperature sensor
temperature sensor
A sensor used to measure temperature.
turbidity sensor
turbidity sensor
Measures the turbidity of water
Turbidity sensors measure the amount of light that is scattered by suspended solids in a liquid, such as water. When the concentration of total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) in a liquid increase, the turbidity also increases.
