Surface underway measurements of partial pressure of CO2, salinity, temperature and other associated parameters during the R/V Marion Dufresne OISO-26 cruise in Indian Ocean from 2016-10-08 to 2016-10-28 (NCEI Accession 0172095)

This dataset includes continuous sea surface measurements of pCO2, temperature and salinity data during the R/V Marion Dufresne OISO-26 cruise in Indian Ocean from 2016-10-08 to 2016-10-28. The OISO program (Océan Indien Service d'Observations, supported by INSU/CNRS), initiated in 1998, collects measurements of CO2 and associated parameters (T, S, DIC, TA, O2, nutrients, Chl-a, 13C, 18O) along the repeated lines of R/V Marion Dufresne (IPEV-TAAF) in the South-Western Indian and Southern Oceans. This coverage is a complement of the international CO2 observing system (IOCCP). The OISO data are regularly included in international synthesis (SOCAT, GLODAP). The OISO-26 cruise conducted in October 2016 was associated to the SOCLIM project (PI, S.Blain/LOMIC/UPMC).

Purpose |
The OISO time-series data: 1) contribute to the annual evaluation of the global carbon budget by regularly feeding international data bases, notably SOCAT and GLODAP; 2) provide a better understanding of air-sea CO2 flux variability, anthropogenic CO2 and acidification in the South Indian and Southern oceans. 3) provide in situ observations for the calibration and validation of autonomous observations (e.g., satellite data, Argo, BioArgo and CARIOCA floats, marine mammals equipped with oceanographic sensors); 4) document environmental changes related to climate variability and evaluate the impact on marine organisms. |
