abstract: This dataset includes surface underway, chemical, meteorological and physical data collected from F.G. Walton Smith in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean in 2018. These data include air-sea difference of partial pressure of carbon dioxide, partial pressure of carbon dioxide in atmosphere, partial pressure of carbon dioxide in water, barometric pressure, sea surface salinity and temperature. The instruments used to collect these data include barometric pressure sensor, carbon dioxide gas analyzer, shower head chamber equilibrator for autonomous carbon dioxide measurement and thermosalinographs. These data were collected by Frank J. Millero, Ryan Woosley, of Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and Rik Wanninkhof and Kevin Sullivan of NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory. The Global Coastal Carbon Data Project data includes the bottle (discrete) and surface (underway) carbon-related measurements from coastal research cruises, the data from time series cruises and coastal moorings. The coastal regions data are very important for the understanding of carbon cycle on the continental margins.

description: measures gaseous carbon dioxide Carbon dioxide gas analyzer has often been referred to as LI-COR, because a lot of researchers choose to use products manufactured by LI-COR incorporation for their carbon dioxide measurement. The main component of a carbon dioxide analyzer is a nondispersive infrared (NDIR) spectroscopic sensors to detect CO2 in a gaseous environment by its characteristic absorption. Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas analyzer works together with carbon dioxide (CO2) equilibrator (insttypes_id 184) to measure carbon dioxide in the water. To measure water carbon dioxide, water needs to be continuously supplied to a showerhead inside an equilibrator. As the water flows through the equilibrator chamber, dissolved carbon dioxide exchanges quickly with air in the headspace. This air is then sampled by the carbon dioxide analyzer to determine the mole fraction of CO2 in water.
