This dataset includes ocean currents and temperature timeseries (every 60 minutes) collected by a current meter at 340m as part of the mooring (M1) deployed on the shelf (545m) in the Prydz Bay (67.20475S and 72.00696E). The mooring was deployed during the 2013 February CHINARE29 cruise and recovered during the 2015 March CHINARE31 cruise by the R/V Xue Long. These data were collected for US/Chinese Collaborative Study: Investigation of Bottom Water Formation in Prydz Bay, Antarctica. Data file format is plain text.

  • Parameter or Variable: CURRENT METER - EAST-WEST COMPONENT (U) (calculated); Units: cm/s; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: Alec Electromagnetic Current Meter (AEM); Sampling and Analyzing Method: Currents were measured by a AEM current meter configured with dual-axis electromagnetic type sensor as well as a compass. The instrument was set at a depth of 340m as part of a mooring deployed at water depths of 540m. Raw data were converted to physical units using the factory-supplied calibration sheet and velocity components were calculated based on the algorithms presented in the Rockland Oceanographic Services FAQ document. Data are reported at a 60-minute intervals. www.jfe-advantech.co.jp www.rocklandocean.com.
  • Parameter or Variable: CURRENT METER - NORTH-SOUTH COMPONENT (V) (calculated); Units: cm/s; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: Alec Electromagnetic Current Meter (AEM); Sampling and Analyzing Method: Currents were measured by a AEM current meter configured with dual-axis electromagnetic type sensor as well as a compass. The instrument was set at a depth of 340m as part of a mooring deployed at 540m. Raw data were converted to physical units using the factory-supplied calibration sheet and velocity components were calculated based on the algorithms presented in the Rockland Oceanographic Services FAQ document. • Parameter or Variable: WATER TEMPERATURE (measured); Units: C; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: Alec Electromagnetic Current Meter (AEM); Sampling and Analyzing Method: Temperature was measured by a AEM current meter configured with water temperature sensor (thermistor). The instrument was set at 340m as part of a mooring deployed at 540m. Temperature was computed based on algorithms presented in the Rockland Oceanographic Services FAQ document and is reported at a 60-minute intervals. www.jfe-advantech.co.jp www.rocklandocean.com.
  • Parameter or Variable: CURRENT DIRECTION (calculated); Units: degrees; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: AEM current meter; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Current directions were measured by the AEM current meter compass. The instrument was set at a depth of 340m as part of a mooring deployed at 540m. Velocity bearing in Earth coordinates was calculated based on the algorithms presented in the Rockland Oceanographic Services FAQ document. Data are reported at a 60-minute intervals. www.jfe-advantech.co.jp www.rocklandocean.com.
