Dataset Overview | National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)

European remote sensing/Environmental Satellite (ERS/Envisat) Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) line-of-sight deformation from 1992-06-17 to 2010-09-25 (NCEI Accession 0173735)

This dataset contains co-registered interferograms formed from the images of the European Remote Sensing (ERS) and Environmental Satellite (Envisat) from June 17, 1992 to September 25, 2010. Each interferogram measures surface displacement in the radar line-of-sight direction between two dates. The interferograms are uncorrected (i.e., no corrections for atmospheric effects or orbital errors have been applied). This data is applied in a study to investigate complex ground deformation in Los Angeles groundwater basins due to groundwater withdrawal.

Purpose These data were collected to support the study of Riel, et al. (2018). "Quantifying Ground Deformation in the Los Angeles and Santa Ana Coastal Basins due to Groundwater Withdrawal", accepted for publication in Water Resources Research. This study investigated complex ground deformation in Los Angeles groundwater basins due to groundwater withdrawal and compared deformation to time series of hydraulic head in aquifers.
