Processing Steps
  • Parameter or Variable: Dissolved Inorganic Carbon; Abbreviation: DIC_UMOL_KG; Unit: UMOL/KG; Observation type: Discrete, profile, bottle; Measured or calculated: Measured; Sampling instrument: Niskin Bottles; Analyzing instrument: Apollo DIC analyzer composed of an infrared gas analyzer AS-C3.; Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Discrete samples were collected from Niskin bottles and transferred to sample bottles through silicone tubing to prevent bubbling. Samples for DIC, TA and pH were collected without bubbling into 125-ml groundglass bottles with greased stoppers. Bottles were overflowed 2.5 times the volume before the sample was collected and preserved with 0.1 ml of saturated mercuric chloride solution, and immediately cooled. Samples were generally stored for about a week before analysis. DIC was measured first from each sample bottle, followed sequentially by pH and TA. DIC of unfiltered water was determined using an automated analyzer built by Apollo SciTech. Immediately after opening the sample bottle, a digital syringe withdrew a small amount of sample (1.0 mL), acidified it with 10 % phosphoric acid and subsequently measured the evolved CO2 with a Li-Cor 7000 non-dispersive infrared gas analyzer.; Replicate information: no replicates; CRM manufacturer: Andrew Dickson Laboratory at SIO; Preservation method: mercuric chloride solution; Researcher name: Wei-Jun Cai; Researcher institution: University of Delaware.
  • Parameter or Variable: Total alkalinity; Abbreviation: TA_UMOL_KG; Unit: UMOL/KG; Observation type: Discrete, bottle; Measured or calculated: Measured; Sampling instrument: Niskin Bottles; Analyzing instrument: Apollo alkalinity titrator AS ALK-2; Type of titration: Gran titration; Cell type (open or closed): open; Detailed sampling and analyzing information: Discrete samples were collected from Niskin bottles and transferred to sample bottles through silicone tubing to prevent bubbling. Samples for DIC and TA were collected without bubbling into 125-ml groundglass bottles with greased stoppers. Bottles were overflowed 2.5 times the volume before the sample was collected and preserved with 0.1 ml of saturated mercuric chloride solution, and immediately cooled. Samples were generally stored for about a week before analysis. DIC was measured first from each sample bottle, followed by TA. 25 ml of sample is titrated (model Apollo SciTech, AS-ALK2) with 0.1 M HCl and pH is measured with an Orion 8102BN glass electrode.; CRM manufacturer: Andrew Dickson Laboratory at SIO; Preservation method: Mercury chloride; Method reference:; Researcher name: Wei-Jun Cai; Researcher institution: University of Delaware.
  • Parameter or Variable: pH; Abbreviation: PH_NBS_MEA; pH scale: NBS; Observation type: Discrete, bottle; Measured or calculated: Measured; Sampling instrument: Niskin Bottles; Analyzing instrument: pH meter with electrode; Temperature of pH measurement: 25 Deg C; At what temperature was pH reported: at 25C; Researcher name: Wei-Jun Cai; Researcher institution: University of Delaware.
  • Parameter or Variable: CTD Temperature; Abbreviation: CTDTMP_ITS90_DEG_C; Unit: degrees celcius; Observation type: CTD sensor; Sampling instrument: CTD; Analyzing instrument: SeaBird thermosalinograph; Uncertainty: 0.01 degrees Celsius.
  • Parameter or Variable: CTDSAL_PSS78; Abbreviation: CTDSAL; Observation type: CTD sensor; Sampling instrument: CTD; Analyzing instrument: SBE thermosalinograph; Uncertainty: 0.02 .
