Seven Beryllium (7Be) activity from push cores in Fourleague Bay, Louisiana, USA from 2015-05-15 to 2018-04-05 (NCEI Accession 0190532)

browse graphicPreview graphic
Push cores were collected once every two months, from May 2015 to May 2016, along five central bay sites and five adjacent marsh sites within Fourleague Bay, Louisiana. All sites fall within ~10 to 30 km of the Atchafalaya Delta, extending south towards the Gulf of Mexico. Cores were extruded in 2 cm intervals, dried, ground, and analyzed via gamma spectrometry for the presence of 7-Beryllium (t1/2 = ~53 days).

Processing Steps
  • Parameter or Variable: 7Be Activity (measured); Units: dpm/g; Observation Category: laboratory analysis; Sampling Instrument: germanium gamma detector; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Push cores were taken from five sites on the marsh surface and fives sites on the bay bottom every two months for one year, between May 2015 and May 2016. Cores were extruded in 2 cm intervals, weighed, dried, weighed again, homogenized, and sealed in sterile petri dishes. Water samples were taken April 2018, with sediment extracted within the same week. All homogenized samples were then placed in Canberra germanium gamma detectors for 20-24 hours to analyze for 7-beryllium activity..
