Vertical water temperature data were collected at multiple depths on a single mooring in the central basin of Lake Huron from October 2012 through June 2019. Vertical temperatures were collected hourly at 15 to 21 depths over the period of record; maximum depth of this mooring location was 220 m. Two brands of thermistors have been used over the years including R. Brancker Duo and Seabird 56, both have a temperature accuracy of ±0.02 °C. The temperature measurements were collected as continuously as possible during this time period, note there are some breaks in the temporal collection for maintaining equipment annually. Each netCDF file contains the data for a single mooring deployment since thermistor depths vary between deployments.
Temperature measurements collected at high resolution in both time and vertical space are critical to 1) assess inter-annual variability of the thermal structure of the Great Lakes; 2) test three-dimensional model parameterization; 3) understand vertical mixing processes; and 4) to aid in interpreting biological and other environmental data.
