Water velocity, dissolved oxygen, and water level data in Singleton Swash, North Carolina tidal creek from 2017-09-08 to 2018-06-01 (NCEI Accession 0191916)

browse graphicPreview graphic
Water velocity data (m/s) was measured by an acoustic Doppler velocimeter within a tidal creek at approximately 0.55m above the channel bottom. Measurements were made in 5-minute bursts every 15 minutes at 64Hz. Water velocity components (UVW) were measured in an XYZ coordinate system where X is the along-channel direction, Y is the across-channel direction and the Z is the vertical direction. X is positive oriented inland. Dissolved oxygen-DO (% Saturation): DO was measured on 5-minute intervals to agree temporally with the velocity data. The DO measurements are taken at the same location as the velocity measurements. Water level measurements are taken approximately 100 meters upstream to understand tidal range within the creek.

Processing Steps
  • Parameter or Variable: Velocity Data (measured); Units: m/s; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: Nortek ADV; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Velocities are measured 0.55m from the channel bottom at 64Hz over 5-min periods every 15 minutes. The measurements are made in the XYZ coordinate plane (x = along-channel, y= across-channel, z = vertical).; Data Quality Method: Within the .dat files the auto correlation and SNR are available to QC the velocity data..
  • Parameter or Variable: DISSOLVED OXYGEN (measured); Units: % Saturation; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: HOBO DO Logger; Sampling and Analyzing Method: DO % saturation was collected 0.55m above the channel bottom at the location of velocity measurements.
  • Parameter or Variable: WATER LEVEL (measured); Units: m; Observation Category: in situ; Sampling Instrument: HOBO Water Level Logger; Sampling and Analyzing Method: Water level was measured approximately 100 meters downstream of the velocity measurements..
