Global gelatinous zooplankton biomass estimations from 1790 to 2011 to model jelly-C transfer efficiency (NCEI Accession 0207402)

The databases compiled here use data from the Jellyfish Database Initiative (JeDi: http://jedi.nceas.ucsb.edu; Condon et al. 2015), public datasets (http://www.bco-dmo.org/dataset/526852), and global biomass estimates of the upper ocean (Lucas et al. 2014) to facilitate modelling of jelly-C transfer efficiency based on Longhurst biogeographical provinces. The original data archived in https://www.bco-dmo.org/dataset/526852 are re-arrange, with new calculations to facilitate the modelling. Gelatinous zooplankton (Cnidaria, Ctenophora, and Urochordata, namely Thaliacea) are members of plankton communities linking primary production to higher trophic levels and the deep ocean by serving as food and transferring “jelly-carbon” (jelly-C) upon bloom collapse.
