Dataset Overview | National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)

Water temperature, salinity, and others taken by CTD and ADCP from the research vessel Nathaniel B. Palmer in the Bellingshausen Sea and Amundsen Sea from 2018-12-17 to 2019-01-19 (NCEI Accession 0210639)

This data set is a hydrographic survey collected by CTD and ADCP throughout West Antarctica, but largely in the Bellingshausen and Amundsen Seas, during the research cruise NBP19-01 on the research vessel Nathaniel B. Palmer. Each of the 78 stations provide full-depth profiles of temperature, salinity, oxygen, fluorescence and PAR. Velocity profiles were also collected from a Lowered Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (LADCP). The temperature, salinity and velocity measurements have been calibrated and quality controlled (see link to cruise report below). All other properties have not been calibrated at this time. Please contact the PI, Andrew Thompson for further information. Data are in NetCDF.

Purpose This cruise was funded by the NSF's Office of Polar Programs as part of the TABASCO (Trasnport of the Antarctic Peninsula and Bellingshausen Sea: Antarctic Slope Current Origins) project. The goal of the project was to study the circulation of the Antarctic margins over the continental slope and shelf throughout the Bellingshausen Sea. Of particular interest is the transition in the frontal structure over the continental slope in this region.
