abstract: Wave spectra, meteorological, and other data were collected from NOAA Ship FERREL. Data were collected by the National Ocean Service (NOS) from 17 May 1982 to 12 August 1982. Data has been processed by NODC to the standard NODC F191-Meteorology and Wave Spectra format. Data in this accession do not completely conform to the F191 format. The F191 format is used to report meteorological data and ocean wave spectra data from NDBO. The format contains seven data record types to: 1) identify the buoy for position, duration, rate of sampling and heading, 2) identify the meteorological parameters, (temperature, pressure, weather, solar radiation, and surface waves), and 3) report time times series frequency, density and resolution of waves. Each record is 120 characters in length, sorted by station and record type.
purpose: This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM.
