This dataset contains TOGA data from 1985 to 1986 from the French IGOSS data center collected in the Tropical Pacific ocean. The data contains temperature profiles (bathythermograph and TESAC data where salinity has been deleted from TESAC), reported in GF3 format. The data was submitted by Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer (IFREMER), Brest, France.
This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).
Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.
To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.

Notes : Pennants F22, DE22, and 49
Additional Information Sources:
General Comments:
The pennant number of HMAS Derwent was initially F22 in 1964. This was later changed to DE22, with the prefix standing for Destroyer Escort. On 1 January 1969, the Royal Australian Navy adopted the numbering practice used by the US, Canadian and Pakistan Navies, removing the pennant number letter prefix from its ships' hulls. Derwent's pennant number thus became 49.

General Comments:
Swan (III) and her sister ship, TORRENS, were the final two River Class DEs constructed for the RAN. The first four ships, Parramatta (III), YARRA, STUART and Derwent, were a modified version of the Royal Navy's Type '12' Whitby and Rothesay Class frigates, which had very good sea-keeping qualities. Swan (III) and Torrens (II) were a derivation of the Royal Navy's Leander Class general purpose frigate, which was itself a development of the Type '12'. http://www.navy.gov.au/HMAS_Swan_(III)

Transliteration rules in USSR and Ukraine changed with time. To keep consistency in names, and to underline that the name was not changed together with the flag, we suggest to use the current spelling Viktor Bugayev for both vessel codes.
The US NODC had it as 90VC VICTOR BUGAEV until 2009-04-17 when it was changed to 90VC VIKTOR BUGAYEV. At present, the US NODC platform table includes 90VC - VIKTOR BUGAYEV and URVC - VICTOR BUGAEV. (2010)
