NANSEN data collected during the cruises by the RV SAMUDERA and RV TYRO within theme 3 of the SNELLIUS II expedition, conducted by the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) in SW Pacific (limit-147 E to 140 W) between August 1, 1984 and February 21, 1985.
First set of data were collected during August 1984 between 5 - 9 degrees S and 130 - 138 degrees E. Parameters include: temperature, salinity, depth, air pressure, oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, and silicate. Data containing 4,078 records from 1984 - 1985 was submitted in a diskette by Dr. Martien A. Baars, NIOZ, Den Burg, Netherlands. Lots of text headers mixed among the data. Data received from WDC-A, apparently not data archaeology.
Second set of data was standard upcast CTD and nutrient data collected by the RV TYRO as part of the SNELLIUS II expedition conducted by the NIAZ. Data were collected from 3 - 7 S and 128 - 134 E, to a depth of 300 meters. Parameters include: temperature, salinity, depth, air pressure, oxygen, phosphate, silicate, nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, total organic carbon, particulate organic carbon, ATP, and Chlorophyll a. These data are the results of primary productivity incubations from samples collected during the August 1984 cruise. Data were submitted in a tabular format; incubation periods, station location, Secchi disk, surface irradiance, carbonate carbon, and productivity estimates were recorded at roughly 10 - 20 meter intervals to a depth of 100 meters. pH, salinity, and temperature are also listed for each depth and location. Initial samples were collected at 3 - 6 S and 128 - 134 E.
This dataset is available to the public for a wide variety of uses including scientific research and analysis.

Note: Metadata for this accession were extracted from a legacy database maintained by the U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). The design of the database did not exactly reflect the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).
Principal Investigator (PI) and organization contact information accurately represents all available information from the legacy database at the time that this description was created. However, proper attribution of a PI to a specific institution or the role (submitting or collecting) taken by an institution may not be correct due to inexact mapping between fields in the legacy database and the CSDGM. Due to this uncertainty, the contact information was initially recorded in the Supplemental Information element of the CSDGM description.
To develop more accurate metadata, NCEI reviews metadata for all accessions on an ongoing basis.

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
NOAA created the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by merging NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), and National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), including the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC), per the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015, Public Law 113-235. NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.

RV Tyro
Updated information from ICES for the vessel TYRO from NETHERLANDS
Code : 64TR
Name : TYRO
Flag : NETHERLANDS - NL (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : PIBQ
Title : RV
Platform Class : Research vessel
IMO : 6718427
Commissioned Date : 1977
Decommissioned Date : 1994
Current Length : 84.2
Built : 1967
Notes : Started use as a research vessel in 1977 chartered by The Dutch Council for Sea Research (NRZ) for research of the Vening Meinesz Laboratory (VML), Institute of Geophysics, University of Utrecht. Bought in 1982 by the KNAW in Amsterdam, who chartered her for various purposes including research cruises.
Sometimes used the alternative callsign PBVP when used as a Governmental ship.
Sold in 1994 as Jihad II (callsign HQOW7) to Humber Princess Shipping Ltd, sailing under Honduran flag.

SAMUDERA
Updated information from ICES for the vessel SAMUDERA from INDONESIA.
Name : SAMUDERA
Flag : INDONESIA - ID (ISO Country Code)
Call Sign : YBDA
Platform Class : 31 Research vessel
IMO : 5309059
Commissioned Date : 1952
Built : 1952
Notes : WOD 4422. Data at NOAA from 1956-1983 and was still active during 1984-1985 when she participated in the Indonesian-Dutch Snellius-II expedition.
Additional Information Sources:
General Comments:
The Samudera (known as K.M. Samudera which probably stand for Kapal Mesin Samudera and may be translated by Motor Vessel Samudera) was still active during 1984-1985, when she participated in the Indonesian-Dutch Snellius-II expedition.
Samudera build and IMO confirmed in Miramar
Decommissioned date is uncertain. Miramar says "stricken 1974". NOAA holds data associated with "Samudera" from 1956-1983.
R.V. Samudera, Indonesia
The ship was active in the 1970s and the 1980s, but it is difficult to find info on her.
Info may be found in the NOAA data holding, since I found this link: http://catalog.data.gov/dataset/depth-observation-and-other-data-from-samudera-from-19750418-to-19750516-nodc-accession-970000
There is a photo in : http://mseas.mit.edu/Research/Straits/PDF/oceanography_18.4_wyrtki.pdf
And from this article I know that she was commisioned in the early 1950s.
Another photo: http://science-staging.gen25.com/en/research/systematic-research/marine-zoology/
This is the most accurate info: http://maritime-connector.com/ship/samudera-5309059/
This includes an IMO number, but no call sign.
