GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) Geophysical Data Record, Sensor Data Records, Operational Orbit Determination, Housekeeping Telemetry, Calibration and Waveform Data, and Precise Orbit Ephemerides from 1998-02-10 to 2008-10-22
This collection includes the Geophysical Data Record and other supporting data from the the US Navy GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) operational radar altimeter satellite program.
NOAA worked together with the Naval Oceanographic Office to process the altimeter data and provides the NOAA version of the Geophysical Data Record (GDR) to the scientific research community. The GDR is generated from GFO Sensor Data Records (SDRs), precise laser orbit ephemerides (POE) provided by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Raytheon ITSS, environmental corrections, and ancillary geophysical variables. POE are produced at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) within 3-4 weeks. They have an expected radial accuracy of 5 cm RMS (Root Mean Squared) over the six day arc. The Sensor Data Record (SDR) provides time tagged altimeter and radiometer data. GFO Operational Orbit Determination Data (OODD) was generated by the United States Naval Satellite Operations Center (NAVSOC). Housekeeping telemetry, radiometer and altimeter calibration and full waveform data (when available) for the altimeter calibration are also available.

Supplemental Information | The GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) program is the Navy's initiative to develop an operational series of radar altimeter satellites to maintain continuous ocean observation from the GEOSAT Exact Repeat Orbit. GFO was launched in February 1998. On 29 November 2000 the Navy accepted the satellite as operational. GFO officially ended on October 22, 2008. All data are unclassified. |
