FILE TYPE 181 - WAVE/CURRENT OBSERVATIONS - 5/6/82 VERSION

THIS FORMAT IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT STUDIES MADE BY AUTOMATED OCEAN SENSORING
DEVICES. THE FORMAT CONSISTS OF TEN RECORD TYPES. RECORD TYPES A AND B DESCRIBE
THE BASIC ENVIRONMENTAL INFOR- MATION TO UNDERSTAND THE DATA. RECORD TYPES C,
D, E, F, G, H, I, AND J ARE USED TO REPORT CURRENT METER, WATER LEVEL, PRESSURE
GAUGE, WAVE HEIGHT, AND WAVE DIRECTION, SPECTRA, FOURIER COEFFICIENTS, AND
CURRENT METER RESPECTIVELY.

ALL RECORDS ARE 128 CHARACTERS LONG. SORTING BY STATION NUMBER AND SEQUENCE
NUMBER WILL OBTAIN PROPER SEQUENCE OF RECORD.

THE FIRST NINE COLUMNS FOR ALL RECORDS ARE TO BE USED FOR FILE TYPE (COLUMNS
1-3) AND FILE IDENTIFIER (COLUMNS 4-9). THE FILE IDENTIFIER, TO BE ASSIGNED BY
THE ORIGNATOR, IS A UNIQUE ORIGINATOR ID FOR EACH DATA SUBMISSION. AFTER
SUBMISSION, THE NODC REASSIGNS TO THIS FIELD A UNIQUE NODC IDENTIFIER FOR
INTERNAL USE.
