FILE TYPE 182 - WAVE DATA FORMAT 5/28/82 VERSION

A NEW FORMAT - WAVE DATA FORMAT HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR NOS ANALYZED WAVE DATA
ORIGINATING FROM THE NOS COASTAL WAVE PROGRAM. THE FORMAT CONSISTS OF 3 RECORD
TYPES, RECORD TYPE A DESCRIBES THE BASIC ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION TO
UNDERSTAND THE DATA RECORD TYPES B AND C ARE USED TO REPORT WAVE ENERGY
SPECTRAL VALUES AND WAVERIDER DATA RESPECTIVELY.

ALL RECORDS ARE 128 CHARACTERS LONG. SORTING BY STATION AND SEQUENCE NUMBER
WILL OBTAIN PROPER SEQUENCE OF RECORDS.

THE FIRST NINE COLUMNS FOR ALL RECORDS ARE TO BE USED FOR FILE TYPE (COLUMNS
1-3) AND FILE IDENTIFIER (COLUMNS 4-9). THE FILE IDENTIFIER, TO BE ASSIGNED BY
THE ORIGNATOR, IS A UNIQUE ORIGINATOR ID FOR EACH DATA SUBMISSION. AFTER
SUBMISSION, THE NODC REASSIGNS TO THIS FIELD A UNIQUE NODC IDENTIFIER FOR
INTERNAL USE.
